My workplace brings me joy

My workplace

Is full of warmth

Full of laughter

Full of hope, and healing

I work on a befriending phone line

I call my clients daily

To check in with them

To see how their day is going

I hear amazing stories

Of great courage, strength

I also hear stories of love, loss

Sadness, and loneliness

I am inspired each day

By all of the clients I befriend

I know they depend on me

As some of them see no one else

Some of them have no family

Nobody to laugh with them

Or hug them

Wish them a good day

See how they are

Are they ok.

Yes my workplace

I love and I would

Not trade it for anything.

And I’d encourage everyone

Volunteer

Even though you don’t get a physical pay check

It will bring you much joy

And you’ll rethink your life if you do.
