my dad went to visit the gastroenterologist yesterday. he found out he has ulcerative colitis. he’s been having a pretty severe flare up of it for the last 2 weeks, with constant vomiting and diarrhea.
the gastro doc said she’d do a kolonoskopy in a couple of weeks, to see how things have progressed over the last 2 months. he may have to have an operation to fit a stoma bag, but that is the last resort. they are going to try every other option first to try and get it under control.
he saw the dietician too yesterday, she gave him info on foods to avoid, and she prescribed nutrition drinks to put weight on him.
Its a worrying time for the whole family.
There is no cure for ulcerative colitis. Just have to keep monitoring it and hope the flare ups stop and he goes into remission.
well wishes to your dad and family

I’m sorry to hear about your dad but at least now they have a diagnosis. It seems like he’s been going back and forth to the doctor for the past six months. I hope they’re able to figure out something that will help. Perhaps if he avoids certain foods, that will help as well.

My friend has UC and recently had his colon removed. He’s doing really well coping with the bag and feels so much better within himself. I hope whatever treatment your Dad gets will help him lots. It’s not an easy condition to live with. I’m quite a new follower to your blog and am slowly working my way through it. What an incredible lady you are, Carol Anne. A true inspiration 💖 Sending love and hugs (only if that’s ok) from Bonnie Scotland. xXBrendzXx

Welcome to my blog. So glad you found it. Thank you for the kind words. It looks like my dad might have to have his colon removed as well. We are trying everything else first though. XXX

It’s so sad news, I wish health to your Dad and am sorry about his illness. It’s really frustrating that there’s no cure for this illness, even though it’s quite common. I’m sorry about all that. Sending support to you, your dad and your family.

I’m really sorry to hear that your dad has been diagnosed with UC, Carol anne. It’s a horrible condition and I hope your dad gets some relief from his pain and the symptoms soon, whether it’s through diet, having treatment or an operation. My cousin has UC and has had a lot of treatment, some of which helped and some didn’t. She had her colon removed eventually and now has a bag but she copes really well and has a better quality of life now than she did before her op. You and your family are in my thoughts and I’m sending healing wishes to your dad and love to you and your family. Love Ellie xxx ❤

I was diagnosed with UC in February, I was hospitalized for ten days in April with a very bad flair up. Eventually I was prescribed Remicade infusions. It was amazing how it helped me immediately. What’s very important is for your Dad to keep the doctor informed if a treatment isn’t working. Good luck to home, I hope he finds the right treatment. By the way, there is no known cause and no cure, the doctors will work towards remission. So while everyone will have advice, best thing he can do is listen to the experts.
