Learning that Santa was not real

This post is written in response to one of John Holton’s writers workshop prompts from a couple of weeks ago.

<![if !supportLists]>1. <![endif]>When did you learn that Santa Claus/the Easter Bunny/the Tooth Fairy was your parents? How did you figure it out?

😊

I believed in Santa up until I was around 11 years old.

I was an only child up until I was 9, so I didn’t have older siblings to spoil things for me.

I had friends, but all of my friends believed in Santa well as far as I know they did.

I am glad that I believed in Santa for so long, it was good that I was so innocent and naïve.

But my mom had to tell me that actually there was no Santa.

I remember the day she told me. I cried for about an hour.

I thought it meant that I’d get no more presents on Christmas.

I wanted to believe in the magic of Christmas.

That magic that believing in Santa creates.

Once I stopped believing, Christmas just wasn’t the same in our house.
