This is written for Val’s scavenger hunt for the month of April. Our challenge is to write poetry from around the world. Check out Val’s post for more info!

Today is the turn of Italy! And Ottava Rima

In the darkness of the night, I lie awake,

My mind racing, thoughts swirling in a haze,

The silence broken only by the clock’s tick-tock,

As sleep eludes me, my body feels like a rock.

I toss and turn, trying to find some peace,

But the worries and fears refuse to cease,

The hours pass by, the moon high in the sky,

As I long for the moment when sleep will finally nigh.
