Tales of a nervous lab

we walk to the bedroom door
he sits down
stubborn as can be
refuses to go in
then runs back out of the room
to the safety of the living room
I think
He’s having bad memories surface
Of people letting off fireworks
He’s associating the bedroom and his bed
with fireworks
a bad combo
so I gently talk to him
Lift the flap of his soft ear
and whisper in his ear
Its ok, buddy
You’ll be fine
Come on now
Its bedtime
And with that
He nervously follows me

      1. For his sake, I wish he was as mellow about loud noises as all our dogs and cats. They don’t even mind the vacuum cleaner. I’ve had pets in the past who freak out from loud noises though…
