When twilight drapes the sky in violet hue,
And stars awake to whisper soft goodnight,
The weary heart finds peace in thoughts of you,
A lantern glowing through the folds of night.
The moon reclines upon her silver throne,
And tides move slow, as if they too would sleep;
The world forgets its noise, its ache, its moan,
While tender hours their silent vigil keep.
In that still hush, where all our sorrows cease,
Love lingers, like a breath the soul redeems;
Your voice drifts through the dusk with soothing peace,
And bids me sail upon your sweet dreams.
So ends the day, and all that day has cost—
In sleep, we find the love the light had lost.
