In the grand hall of King Alder’s palace, the tables bent under the weight of roasted boar, honeyed figs, and golden loaves. The annual Feast of Gluttony had begun—a night when no stomach was left empty and no restraint was shown.
Liora, the young kitchen maid, watched from the shadows as nobles devoured plate after plate. Their laughter grew louder, their movements slower, until the hall itself seemed to groan under their excess.
Then came the turn.
The candles flickered, the air thickened with the scent of overripe fruit, and one by one the guests began to change. Their jeweled hands twisted into claws, their fine clothes tore against swelling bodies. The gluttony that filled them demanded more—it consumed them from within.
Only Liora stood untouched, trembling at the edge of the feast. She had refused even a crumb.
When the dawn came, the hall was silent. The tables were empty. And Liora, now queen by fate’s strange turn, vowed that her rule would never again celebrate such hunger.
