It was already raining when I missed the bus. I stood at the stop, drenched, watching its red taillights disappear around the corner. I was annoyed. My umbrella had snapped inside out ten minutes earlier, my coffee had spilled on my sleeve, and now I was late for work—again.
When I finally arrived, dripping and cold, I expected my boss to give me that look. Instead, she smiled. “You’re just in time,” she said, pointing to a tray of pastries. “I brought extras today.”
I blinked. Maybe the day wasn’t a total disaster after all. I took a croissant, sat down at my desk, and decided that tomorrow, I’d leave ten minutes earlier—and buy a new umbrella.
