Cashless

I went to Macdonald’s this morning. All I bought was a cup of tea and a large coke.

I had no cash on me, only my credit card.

So I paid using it, 6 euro 35 cents.

I did not think they’d accept my card but they did.

I mean I knew they took credit cards, well mine is a visa debit card.

But I thought I’d have to spend a certain amount before they’d accept it.

Thankfully I didn’t, and Frances and I enjoyed our drinks.

What a lovely little moment of modern convenience and simple pleasure! It’s funny how those small, unexpected wins—like being able to use your card for a small purchase without any hassle—can brighten a morning. It’s a testament to how the little things, like enjoying a favorite drink with someone you care about, often make the sweetest memories. So glad you and Frances got to start your day with a refreshing treat and a hassle-free experience. Here’s to many more simple, joyful moments

I remember how surprising and noteworthy it was when McDonald’s in the US started taking cards. Until then, they were cash only, and no one thought anything about it, cards were only used for “serious” purchases.

Soon, all fast-food places were taking cards, and of course, now, about 35 years later, you’d be more surprised at a place not taking cards than you would at a place not taking cash.

My doctor’s office won’t take cash anymore, if you don’t have enough money on a card, you can’t make your copay.

Yeah, that’s true. Everywhere nearly takes cards now so it surprises me that your doctor’s office won’t take them.

They’ll take cards, but not cash. This is a pretty recent change, some of the specialists’ offices owned by the same hospital chain still take cash -for now.
