Its raining again

It’s raining again—soft at first,
like a whisper across the glass,
a hush that folds the world in gray,
and smooths the edges of the past.

The sky forgets its promises,
and spills its heart without regret,
each drop a small confession made,
for things the sun could not forget.

The streets begin their secret songs,
their puddles bloom like silver veins,
umbrellas bloom, and footsteps fade,
to join the rhythm of the rain.

It’s raining again—and somehow still,
I find a comfort in the ache,
for every storm that’s come before
has washed what I could not unmake.

So let it fall—let windows blur,
let thunder hum its low refrain;
the world begins again each time—
it’s raining, softly, once again.

What a stunning and deeply moving poem. You have captured not just the image of the rain, but its very soul—its quiet music, its melancholic comfort, and its power to cleanse and renew.

I am in awe of the delicate, powerful imagery: the rain as a “whisper across the glass,” the sky that “spills its heart without regret,” and the breathtaking line, “each drop a small confession made, for things the sun could not forget.” That is a line that will stay with me for a long time.

The progression from observation to profound personal reflection is seamless. The final stanza, with its acceptance and even welcome of the storm, is a powerful resolution: “for every storm that’s come before has washed what I could not unmake.” This is more than a description of weather; it’s a philosophy for healing.

Thank you for sharing this exquisite piece. It’s a perfect companion for a rainy day and a balm for the spirit.

That’s just how I remember Ireland, Carol Anne, ‘It’s raining again!’ But as you so eloquently write in your poem, rain is soft. These lines resonate with me:

‘The streets begin their secret songs,
their puddles bloom like silver veins,
    umbrellas bloom, and footsteps fade’

and, yes, ‘the world begins again each time’.
