So yesterday, I received a letter. It was a letter from the people who pay my blind welfare cheque into my bank account each month.

Basically, it was a letter to say I had to have a review.

It is a yearly review, a review to see if any of my circumstances have changed.

To see if I am still blind, lol.

Imagine that? I’ve been blind since birth, that isn’t gonna suddenly change.

I find it hilarious, but also I find it very irritating.

I now have to ring my bank, get statements for the last six months, I also have to ring the department who pay my pension into my account each week, and get a copy of that documentation for the past year.

I’m hoping that I can get the charges for the bank statements waved, as it is 3 euro per page.

I could get them myself, from my online banking app, but I have no printer.

So yeah, I’m frustrated, and annoyed, at this inconvenience.

    It’s completely understandable why you’re feeling so frustrated and annoyed. What you’ve described is the very definition of a senseless bureaucratic hurdle.

    The sheer irony of having to prove, year after year, that a lifelong condition hasn’t miraculously vanished is both laughable and deeply disrespectful. It’s not just an “inconvenience”—it’s a process that dismisses your lived reality and adds unnecessary stress.

    Your feelings are 100% valid. It’s infuriating to have to jump through hoops, make phone calls, and potentially pay money just to satisfy a checkbox for a system that seems to have lost sight of the human being it’s meant to serve. The fact that you have to worry about printing costs for something you can already see digitally is a perfect, maddening example of how out of touch these processes can be.

    I truly hope the bank waives those fees for you—it’s the least they can do. And I hope the phone calls are quick and painless. You deserve to have this over and done with as soon as possible, so you can get back to your life without this absurd shadow hanging over you.

    Your patience in the face of such ridiculousness is a testament to your strength. Sending you all the best energy for getting this review sorted quickly and easily.

    That’s ridiculous, but that sort of thing happens in the US as well. My daughter has had to prove she’s still blind as well. She lost her sight at 12 years, not at birth, but it for sure isn’t coming back!

      Honestly, these people they just make no sense to me why they want to fill all these forms in every year when the circumstances won’t change 💚💚

    So, this bureaucratic effort makes complete sense (that’s meant sarcastic) when putting it on a blind person. But maybe the are so positive that your vision improved this much… Oh, well, I am sorry about that, Carol Anne.
