This week for song lyric Sunday Jim has asked us to find a song from a band who almost made it but didn’t.
I had to do a bit of searching, as I didn’t know of too many bands, but in the end I found this song, which I did know, and I am choosing for this week.
It is by the band Len. It is called, steal my sunshine.
Here are some song facts about the song.
Release & Success: The song was released in 1999 on Len’s album You Can’t Stop the Bum Rush. It became a huge one-hit wonder, reaching the Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 in the U.S. and charting worldwide.

Sampled Track: The catchy hook is built around a sample from “More, More, More” (1976) by the Andrea True Connection. The disco loop gives it its instantly recognizable bounce.

Canadian Roots: Len is a Canadian alt-rock/hip-hop group led by siblings Marc Costanzo and Sharon Costanzo. Despite having multiple albums, this was their breakout (and only major) international hit.

Accidental Hit: Marc Costanzo has said he wasn’t planning to make a pop hit — the song was thrown together quickly after he got inspired while attending a rave in Toronto.

Summery Vibes: The lyrics are a bit surreal and fragmented, but the track is widely seen as a summer anthem. Its breezy feel and music video (shot at a Florida scooter rally) captured late-’90s carefree energy.
