Jaideep’s prompt guidelines
This week, we’re playing with contrast:
Write a poem where form and content are at odds.
I chose to write a limerick, and write about loss.
A silence now hangs in the air,
Where laughter once lived without care.
The chair sits alone,
A shadow has grown,
And absence is all that is there.

Sometimes the simplest forms carry the deepest pain. ‘Where laughter once lived without care’ creates such a beautiful contrast—the limerick’s bounce against the stillness of loss creates this incredibly moving effect.
