Summer into Fall

Golden heat
Heat fading
Fading light
Light softens
Softens trees
Trees whisper
Whisper winds
Winds shifting
Shifting skies
Skies turning
Turning leaves
Leaves falling
Falling colors
Colors deepening
Deepening dusk
Dusk lingers
Lingers chill
Chill rising
Rising moon
Moon brightens
Brightens night
Night crisp
Crisp air
Air cooling
Cooling earth
Earth dreaming
Dreaming fires
Fires crackling
Crackling hearth
Hearth glowing
Glowing cider
Cider steaming
Steaming mugs
Mugs clinking
Clinking laughter
Laughter echoing
Echoing woods
Woods listening
Listening silence
Silence gathering
Gathering dark
Dark settling
Settling season
Season changing
Changing summer
Summer into
Into fall
Fall golden
Golden heat
Heat fading

This is a beautiful and evocative chain of imagery. The circular structure, ending where it began with “Golden heat / Heat fading,” perfectly captures the cyclical, fleeting nature of the autumn season. The poem masterfully uses a cascading rhythm to blend the sensory details—the crisp air, the crackling fires, the echoing laughter—into a single, cohesive, and peaceful moment of seasonal change. A wonderful piece.

This is good but it seems like it is a different format than the directions, or so I thought.

I like the form though. There has to be a name for it.

Oh this is lovely Carol Anne. I never like to read others’ poems until I have written mine, I think I have done it wrong …LOL, never mind, but I am with you with the sentiment of fading…. A very enjoyable prompt, it was like going on a ride, I get what you mean about the momentum ..

Suzanne, don’t worry if you’ve done it wrong it’s the effort that you put into it that counts you did the poem and you did the prompt. That’s what counts at the end. Xox

Such a lovely seasonal flow, Carol Anne 🌿 The way you move from “golden heat” to “cooling earth” feels really natural and cozy. I enjoyed the rhythm all the way through!
