Melissa’s Fandango Flash Fiction Challenge #311 – Mom With a Blog
Here’s my response!
😊
In a swamp where the lilies bloom wide,
Lived a hippo named Hank, oh what a ride!
He rolled in the mud, with a splash and a snort,
While an egret named Ella would gracefully court.
"Hey, Hank," chirped Ella, one day with a wink,
"You’re the biggest in here, and I’m starting to think,
You’d look quite dapper with feathers to match,
But your charm, dear hippo, is quite hard to dispatch!"
Hank just rolled over, a big muddy grin,
"Feathers? Oh please, I’m too large for that fin!
I’m the king of this swamp, with my back so wide,
Besides, where would I put them? No place to hide!"
“Let’s take a dip!” Ella called with a flurry,
While Hank took a step, oh boy, was he furry!
He plopped in the water with a raucous splash,
And Ella took off, oh, what a dash!
“You’ll never catch me!” she teased with a caw,
“Not with your bulk! You’re filled with raw skill, but no awe!”
Hank simply chuckled, “You’re quick on your toes,
But I’m the real star when it comes to those hose!”
With mud on his back and a glop in his ear,
Hank drew up close, “Come on, don’t you fear!
We’re the best of pals, a spectacle too—
Me and my feathers, and you without glue!”
Ella just giggled, she couldn’t resist,
“You’d look quite stunning with a feathered twist.
But for now, dear Hank, you’re just perfect as is,
A mud-loving hippo, a hippo with pizzazz!”
So they splashed and they played in the warm swampy sun,
A hippo and egret, just having pure fun.
Though feathers may flutter, and curls may abound,
True friendship is where the best laughter is found!
