How much attention do you pay to the dates stamped on food packaging? Do you find the various labels confusing? Will you toss out any food that has passed whatever date shows up? Or will you go ahead and consume it if it still looks and smells okay?
I’m very wary when it comes to food and eating it. The reason I am so wary is that I got a very bad bug a few years ago. It was called campilobactor, it was from eating meat that wasn’t cooked properly.
I was hospitalised for a week, and it was so bad, I was so sick.
If I have food in my fridge for a while, I don’t even bother to look at the date on it, I just throw it away.
If I’ve opened something, and I haven’t used all of it by the time the use by date is up then I just toss it.
I am particularly careful with meat and eggs. I had to recently throw away four eggs, that I never got around to using. I know that seems wasteful, but I just don’t want to chance using them with only a day or two left on them.
I freeze a lot of food, so that is another reason why I don’t always look at the dates on the labels. If I freeze something, I know when I thaw it out that I need to use it up as soon as possible.
I do find all the labels on food very confusing. I wish there wasn’t so many dates on it. A sell by, use by, etc. Its all so damn confusing.
