The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS Sept. 11, 2021

Linda’s prompt:
Fridays here and so am I with your Stream of Consciousness Saturday prompt.

What a day for a SoCS post, eh? Twenty years ago the world was in shock. As
always, my prompt will allow you to choose what to write. But I have a feeling the subject of many posts will be the same. Heres your prompt for this
week:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is where. Use it any way youd like!

OMG! 20 years have passed since 9/11, I cannot believe it. It is something I’ll never forget, well how could we?
It changed our world as we know it forever!
On this day 20 years ago, I was only 21. I was doing a computer course, and I remember vividly when the planes crashed into the twin towers of the world trade centre.
I watched it unfold on the news, stunned.
I couldn’t believe something like this could happen. But it did.
At that time, I had not yet ever visited the USA. It would be another 4 years before I’d travel to the USA for the first time.
I can only imagine the terror all those poor people felt who were both on the planes, and on the ground, I watched a good documentary last night on the subject of 9/11. It was told from the perspective of all those who survived it.
I remember too being in college at the time, and one of my lecturers, her sister and niece were on one of the planes, they were going to disneyworld and had been on one of the flights that hit the twin towers.
It was just so sad.
Today I remember all of those who were caught up in 9/11. I pray for all the lives that were lost. I pray that nothing like this ever happens in our world again.

I was at work and remember watching the drama unfold on the news (via internet). It was like something out of a Die Hard movie but I was concerned as colleagues were in NYC to visit clients in the Twin Towers. Luckily their meeting had been put back half an hour so they were in the hotel when the planes hit.

I was in my second year of uni and I remember hearing it on the radio in our student house kitchen. It was like nothing we’d ever experienced, America always seemed immune from this sort of thing. I had also never been, but did get to visit for my 30th. Thoughts are with everyone today on this milestone anniversary x

For my 30th I went to New York. I’ve been there 3 more times since. I always spent 2 weeks on the west coast which was amazing.

I had just worked a graveyard shift the night before, so I came home to rest. I hadn’t been asleep too long when the “Breaking News” came across the television. It woke me up out of a deep sleep. I remember I just popped up into a sitting position and just watched the terror and sadness for hours. I couldn’t go back to sleep. I was horrified when I saw the towers. My babies were little and didn’t understand, but they just stared at the TV too in shock of why there was a plane in the side of the building. It was definitely a day never forgotten. Twenty years later, we all still remember the lives lost that day and the heroes on the ground and beyond.

I agree with everything you say but as awful as this was it has not really changed our world, it changed America for a while but the atrocities go on and on all over the world in every country. Yes we must remember and we must all stand up for a change. Love and peace 💜

I’d taken the day off work to prepare for a trip that my ex and I were planning. She went to work and called me when the first plane hit. I was only a little concerned because planes hit skyscrapers on occasion and it’s always bad, but not overwhelmingly horrible like it turned out to be. I just figured it was a little private plane that got flown into a building by a poor pilot. I had no idea it was a large jet deliberately flown into the building. My wife told me that they only had a radio at work, but it sounded like it was a lot worse than that. So I turned on the TV, and it was all over the channels, definitely worse than I’d thought. Then the second plane hit, the Pentagon got hit, the fourth plane crashed in a field, and then the towers collapsed. Horrible. I remember it so well. We did go on our trip, it was a long car trip, so the grounded planes didn’t affect us too much, but it was hard to find hotels with vacancies, as everyone was grounded and taking rental cars all over to return home. The people were all so subdued at all of the tourist sites we stopped at. It was quite an experience.
