You walked beside me
long before the world knew
how unsteady the dark could be.
With every step,
you turned shadows into pathways,
silence into trust,
fear into forward.

Your harness was more than leather—
it was a promise,
a quiet hand on my shoulder,
a map written entirely
in love.

Today I sit with you
in a room too still,
holding all the moments
we never needed words to share.
Your head rests against my knee—
the same place it has rested
a thousand times—
and I try to memorize
every warm breath,
every bit of you
that taught me courage.

Goodbye should not have to exist
between friends like us.
But love,
the real kind,
makes space for endings
when it must.

So I let you go
with trembling gratitude,
and carry forward
what you gave me:
a way through the world,
a way through myself.

Run free now,
my brave companion.
I’ll feel you
in the quiet,
in the sunlight,
in the steps I take
because you taught me
how.

I am currently raising money to pay for ongoing psychotherapy. I am a survivor of complex trauma, I have dissociative identity disorder, and complex PTSD.  Therapy can be very expensive.

Don’t feel you have to, there is no pressure, but I’m grateful for any donations that are received.
