My two current favourite people are my mom, and my mom’s dog Charlie!
Here is a poem I wrote for my mom.
In quiet ways you guide me,
in louder ways you cheer,
a steady light that’s followed me
through every passing year.
Your hands have held my worries,
your voice has calmed my fear,
and even when the world felt loud,
your love rang bright and clear.
You taught me strength in softness,
you taught me how to try,
you knew the weight my heart could hold
long before did I.
So here’s my simple thank you
for all you’ve done and do—
for every selfless, tender thing
that shaped my heart like you.
And of course I had to write one for Charlie, too!
In the quiet hush of morning,
before the sun has found the trees,
you’re there—tail painting circles,
a soft storm at my feet.
Border collie eyes, bright galaxies,
you read my thoughts like weather,
herding every scattered piece of me
gently back together.
You run like joy unbuttoned,
like wind learning how to play,
and every leap you take becomes
a smile in my day.
When the world grows loud and heavy,
you press your forehead to my knee—
a wordless kind of comfort
only dogs can set free.
Charlie, my clever, loyal heartbeat,
my constant, my four-paw friend,
your love is a gift that deepens,
a story that won’t end.
For in each wag, each nudge, each moment,
I feel a truth so pure and bright—
that loving you, sweet Charlie,
is my life’s small, shining light.
