In a dusty corner of an abandoned lab, a skeleton named Skully sat slouched over a desk. He’d been dead for at least a century, but tonight—thanks to a strange stroke of lightning and a conveniently plugged-in power strip—he was back online.
Skully blinked his empty eye sockets. The world was quiet, except for the soft hum of a machine. On the table before him sat a sleek black headset, blinking with a neon blue light.
“Hmm,” he rattled, picking it up. “What’s this? A crown for the bone king?”
He plopped the VR headset onto his skull. Immediately, the room dissolved into pixels of light. Skully gasped—well, would have, if he had lungs. Instead, he let out a happy clack of teeth.
Suddenly, he was standing in a lush fantasy forest. Birds sang, sunlight streamed through emerald leaves, and a floating text appeared before him:
WELCOME TO BONEZONE VR. PRESS ANY BONE TO BEGIN.
“Oh, this is spine-tacular!” he said, pressing his finger bones together like buttons.
He swung a sword made of glowing light and took on an army of virtual goblins. When he lost an arm, he just popped it back in place and kept swinging. When he won, he threw his skull back and laughed—a sound like dice rolling across a marble floor.
After a few rounds, he tried something new: VR Dance Battle.
Skully’s bones clicked and clacked to the beat as holographic disco lights flashed around him. His pelvis spun like a record; his femurs popped and locked in perfect rhythm. The scoreboard lit up:
NEW RECORD: MOST BONES JAZZED (206)!
Finally, as dawn crept through the cracks of the real world, Skully lifted the headset off. His sockets glowed with satisfaction.
“Well,” he said to no one in particular, “guess I’ve still got moves in my bones.”
He set the headset down, crossed his legs, and waited for the next night of fun—ready to log back into the Bonezone, where even the dead could dance.
