For this week’s tanka Tuesday prompt, Melissa Lemay is our host, and she has challenged us to write a tanKu.
I am partnering with Melissa for this prompt.
Here is my TanKu.
Candy treats and pumpkin wishes
ML:
clumsy error
we broke the tiny saw blade
pumpkin carving blues
resolute autumn fervor
pumpkin finger painting instead
Carol Anne’s HAIKU:
Slippery knife slips—
a grin turns into a gash,
candle laughs inside.
ML:
ripening gourds
seeds ready for roasting
plentiful harvest
last-minute costume ideas
warts for witches’ noses
Carol Anne’s HAIKU:
Masks hide borrowed souls,
moonlit streets hum with whispers—
we forget our names.
ML:
fireside marshmallows
melting onto graham crackers
season of the s’more
cheery trick-or-treaters
like king size candy bars best
Carol Anne’s HAIKU:
Footsteps on cool leaves,
sweet loot piles like treasure hoards—
stomach aches by dawn.

Talk to me! I love comments!
