Excuses, excuses

I’d eat a salad, crisp and light,
But pizza called me late last night.
I meant to steam some broccoli green,
But cookies whispered, “Don’t be mean.”

The treadmill waits, it hums, it stares,
But Netflix traps me in its snares.
I tell myself, “Just one more show,”
Then suddenly the hours go.

My fridge is stocked with noble plans,
But chips leap straight into my hands.
I’ll start tomorrow—such a breeze,
(Except tomorrow has brownies, please).

Birthdays, weekends, rainy days,
Stress and boredom, work delays.
Too much traffic, no good mood,
And let’s not mention comfort food.

So here I stand, with fork in sight,
A million reasons every night.
Yet in the mirror, plain and true—
The biggest reason should be you.

Pizza v salad – understandable which one was the winner.

A wonderfully relatable and witty take on the universal struggle between intention and indulgence. The playful personification of food and excuses makes the poem both charming and deeply human, culminating in that perfectly pointed, self-aware final line.
