Our words this week: demolished, legacy, step, eager, age, turn, scam, rich, chest, shaking, smell, lie
And my take…
The old mansion stood half-demolished at the edge of town, its crumbling walls a fading legacy of an age long gone. I took a careful step inside, the floorboards shaking under my weight. Dust clung to the air, mixed with the sharp smell of mildew and rot.
I was eager to uncover what my grandfather had hidden here. People said he died rich, though others whispered his fortune was nothing but a scam. Somewhere in these ruins, the truth waited.
At the turn of a hallway, I found a chest—oak, iron-bound, heavy with promise. My heart pounded as I knelt, fingers trembling on the rusted lock. For a moment, I imagined jewels, gold, documents proving he was more than a con man.
But when I forced it open, a lie stared back at me: not treasures, but worthless trinkets, faded papers, broken watches. My grandfather’s empire had been smoke and mirrors.
Shaking, I realized the chest itself was the final scam—a cruel joke meant to deceive even his own blood. His legacy wasn’t wealth or glory, but the ruin of trust. I closed the chest, the smell of decay wrapping around me, and walked away.

Talk to me! I love comments!
