Series: #1 in Witness
Category: Legal Thriller
Synopsis:
When 16-year-old Hannah Sheraton is arrested for the murder of her stepgrandfather, the chief justice of the California Supreme court, her distraught mother turns to her old college roommate, Josie Baylor-Bates, for help. Josie, once a hot-shot criminal defense attorney, left the fast track behind for a small practice in Hermosa Beach, California.
But Hannah Sheraton intrigues her and, when the girl is charged as an adult, Josie cannot turn her back. But the deeper she digs the more Josie realizes that politics, the law, and family relationships create a combustible and dangerous situation.
When the horrible truth is uncovered it can save Hannah Sheraton or destroy them both.
Comments:
This is a captivating legal thriller with compelling characters, some of
them quite despicable. There is some exciting courtroom drama with a
large dose of literary license. The dramatic climax is intended to be
surprising, although I suspected it early on.
The narration by Tara Platt is adequate, but she mispronounced some very
common words — sometimes more than once. Even worse, the production of
the audiobook is atrocious. The volume level is all over the place —
sometimes almost too quiet to hear, then blasting out loud enough to
startle the listener. Overall, it seems very unprofessional.
The story is complete with a satisfactory ending, but I’d recommend
seeking a different edition of this audiobook if you decide to give it a
listen. I got my copy from Audible.
