Three Things Challenge #MM158 | pensitivity101
Our words are: Catfish, catty, catchy.
Here’s what I came up with!
❤
Maya leaned over the edge of the pier, watching the river ripple in the moonlight. A fat catfish stirred beneath the surface, its whiskers twitching as if it understood her secrets. She smiled; fishing was her quiet escape, a contrast to the noisy café where she worked days filled with gossip and catty remarks from coworkers.
That morning, Tasha had mocked her worn-out shoes, her voice dripping with sarcasm. Maya had brushed it off, humming the new catchy tune playing on the café radio instead. Music clung to her better than insults ever could.
Now, in the stillness, Maya felt the tension slide away. She tugged on her fishing line and imagined each jerk was a rude comment being reeled in, powerless against her patience.
The catfish finally surfaced, glistening under the pale glow. Maya whispered, “You and me, we just keep swimming, don’t we?” She released it gently back into the water, watching the ripples fade.
By morning, she would return to the café, shoes scuffed, smile intact, ready to hum her tune again. Catchy or not, it was hers—and no catty remark could drown it out.
The river kept her grounded. The song kept her free.

Talk to me! I love comments!
