I opened the bag with a quiet thrill,
A fistful of Skittles, a sugar-spill.
Red, green, orange—a technicolor cheer,
Melting rainbows from ear to ear.

They dance on the tongue, they snap and pop,
Each fruity burst I wish wouldn’t stop.
Like catching joy in a candy shell,
A kaleidoscope you can taste and smell.

Then comes the bar with the curious name,
Whatchamacallit—elusive fame.
Crispy, chewy, chocolate-bound,
A mystery that’s flavor-crowned.

Peanut butter whispers, caramel slides,
A waltz of textures that sweetly collides.
I take a bite and close my eyes,
A secret treasure in candy disguise.

So here’s to treats both bold and strange,
From rainbow sugar to flavor range.
In every chew, a moment to stall—
Skittles and Whatchamacallit, I want them all.

LOVE this. Your rhyming scheme adds great pacing to the poem and you’ve used the candy names well. Enjoyed this very much BUT . . . I must tell you . . . Skittles is the only candy my kids ever vomited . . . both at the same time . . . in the back seat of our car . . . on a hot humid day! So it’s a testament to your writing that you can make me see Skittles in a new light! My kids are now 49 and 51 . . . and this was when they were in elementary school and I still remember it all clearly! Your poem will help me to replace that image (and smell) with a much more pleasant one – so am VERY glad you posted to the prompt! 🙂

Hi Lillian oh my goodness they vomited skittles oh my goodness I cannot think what that would’ve been like. I’m glad I helped you replace the image with a new one X
