The aftermath

In the quiet corners of a restless mind,

Where shadows linger, and peace is hard to find,

Echoes of whispers, like ghosts in the air,

Remind me of battles I often must bear.

Layers unfold like the pages of scars,

Each one a story, a journey to Mars,

Traveling distances both near and profound,

Yet shackled to memories that pull me back down.

In sunlight, I wander, a smile on my face,

But inside, the tremors can’t find a safe space.

Anxiety dances, a partner in strife,

In this intricate waltz of reclaiming my life.

I search for the fragments, the pieces once whole,

Building a mosaic to mend my frail soul.

With every small triumph, I learn to embrace,

The aftermath shaping me, time will not erase.

Support from the anchors who gather around,

In the silence of understanding, there’s healing profound.

Together we rise, like the dawn breaking free,

In a world of resurgence, I learn to just be.

So here I stand, weaving threads from the past,

Transforming the chaos, my heart beats steadfast.

With each gentle whisper, with love as my guide,

I’ll honor the journey, and in solace, I’ll stride.

Though echoes may linger, and shadows persist,

I navigate forward, and I will not resist.

For in this aftermath, a resilience ignites,

A path carved in courage, my spirit takes flight.

A difficult read and, I imagine, it can’t have been easy to write, Carol Anne. The simile ‘layers unfold like the pages of scars’ is very effective, as is the metaphor: ‘intricate waltz of reclaiming my life’.

It was definitely not easy to write Kim! But I do find it theraputic when I do write. X

Why else write poetry? Straight from the heart and with a healing art.

    This really resonated with me:

In the quiet corners of a restless mind,

Where shadows linger, and peace is hard to find,

Echoes of whispers, like ghosts in the air,

Remind me of battles I often must bear.

    A wonderful poem.
