anyone know how you deal with irrational fears, when you know they are irrational but you are completely sucked in, because your trauma brain tells you that there is really something to fear here?

Exposure. In therapy for anxiety and OCD, I learned exposure to the things we fear can make our brain bored after it realises it isn’t something to be feared. Avoiding what we fear can fool our brain into thinking it is indeed something to fear and make it worse.
I don’t know if this works for everyone, but it makes sense.
Some distraction definitely can help. It’s hard to distract, when your thoughts are racing and you’re feeling like constantly in danger, but if you succeed, the fear should lessen at least a bit. For me it works, if I am able to distract. And, when I’m fearful, I like to spend some time with some nice people, like with my Mum for example. She doesn’t understand very well, I don’t think I could talk to her about my fears, cuz even I myself don’t understand them fully, so it’s difficult and they are difficult to describe, but just being with someone, talking about whatever definitely helps with fears. It doesn’t rather help me when I’m depressive, but when I’m fearful – definitely yes. Hope you’re not anxious now and seeing Eileen helped. 🙂

I am currently raising money to pay for ongoing psychotherapy. I am a survivor of complex trauma, I have dissociative identity disorder, and complex PTSD. Therapy can be very expensive.
If you feel like donating to my fund you can donate using pay pal. My pay pal email for donating is:
Don’t feel you have to, there is no pressure, but I’m grateful for any donations that are received.
