Rain tapped against the alley’s brick walls as he lit a cigarette, the sulfur sting mixing with city rot. “Third one this month,” his partner muttered. He nodded grimly. But this one—this one was different. The victim wore a wedding ring with the detective’s initials engraved inside. His breath caught. This wasn’t just murder. It was personal. And the killer was sending a message.
