Ok, so, I rent my house. I am a tenant of Cork city council’s local authority housing.
I pay a subsidised rate. It goes according to how much you make.
My rent is pretty reasonable.
I feel very lucky. If something in my house needs to be repaired, I don’t have to pay for it.
My poor mom, who owns her house, just shelled out 3.500 euros on a new gas boiler.
Yes the council workers can be slow to come out, and you might have to make more than one call to housing maintenance, but in the end they do come out and fix what needs to be fixed.
And to be fair, I’ve never had any issues with them being slow to come out to me.
Would I like to own my own house? Nope. I’m quite happy to just rent.
