My friend Pat gave me a ring tonight. He had bad news to tell me, unfortunately his dog sweeney is very ill. Sweeney is a guide dog, and he’s 8 years old.

He’s a beautiful dog. He’s a cross between a lab and a retriever, but there’s more of a lab in him.

About 10 days ago, he started throwing up one evening, and he got very lethargic and he just wasnt himself, he stopped barking, and stopped eating also.

Pat took him in to the vets, and the vet ran a lot of tests, oh, I forgot to say the night before pat took him in, he was brushing him and he found two lumps on his neck.

So the vet did blood tests, and a biopsy on thhe lumps.

It turns out Sweeney has lymphoma, the vet said it didnt look good. Pat was devastated, as you can imagine. So was I when I heard the sad news.

Pat took him to a top vetinary hospital, and they ran more tests to see what type of cancer cells they were and whether they would be able to treat him for it.

Luckily the tests came back saying that the type of cells werent the very aggressive type, so he was able to start chemo yesterday.

I hope it will prolong his life by a long time, because with all that has been going on with covid, pat has nobody with him, and I cant even go up there to lend my support right now because of being in lockdown.

I hate hearing about animals who I love being ill. One of my worst fears is that Nitro will develop some type of cancer, I fear that because he’s 10 now so getting older. I cant imagine losing him and I can hardly even think about it without breaking down.

So I know how pat is feeling and what he’s going through.
