When people stare at me

When I am out and about in public, and people stare at me because I am blind, and might be doing something like holding on to my mom, or feeling something on a shelf in a store, and yes, people still stare, even though we’re in 2023 now.

Well, when they do that, I usually stop what I am doing, turn around and loudly say to them or in earshot of them…

Keep staring, I might do a trick!

I even got a t-shirt with that saying printed on it and I will ware it sometimes!

Some people can be so rude!

    1. Yes, people could stare for that reason I guess but I would be direct. If I was asking somebody if they needed help I would just ask I wouldn’t stare at them for a minute or two beforehand 🌷

  1. Good response Carol Anne. In another context, I never realised how difficult it was for people in wheelchairs to shop until I was in one. Luckily for me it was short term, but for many it’s permanent and my experience made me more aware. I cannot imagine what it’s like being blind and people can be so thoughtless as well as rude.
When Maggie was a tiny puppy and before she’d had her second jabs, she lived in Hubby’s coat whenever we went out so that we could introduce her to different sounds and situations. A man was sitting on a bench and he had a white cane, so I went up to him and politely asked if he’d mind meeting our dog. He wanted to know all about her, and held out his arms to hold her. Hubby put Maggie in them and he hugged her close to his face which was wreathed in smiles. It made our day.
