Listen
Can you hear it?
The sounds of birds
Their sweet melodies wafting
Through my windows
Caressing my ears
Making me do a happy dance
Around my living room
Then, without warning
A flurry of whooshing sounds
As they fly high into the air
And dive into the trees
Going back to their nests
And their young ones.
Ode to a Butterfly
Amid life’s cruel and bitter Sting, their lives a jewel on delicate wing so subtle that we scarcely heed the beauty of her simple creed. On wings of lace and color fair, with modest grace, she takes to air. Into my life she flew one day to be my wife forever. I pray so happy I can only sigh, my lovely lady butterfly.

Nobility

Tubac AZ
(Winner 1984 Colorado Poet of the Year)
he shuffles down the alley
amid garbage and foul stench
tattered shoes display life’s stains
and grey sky becomes his crown
tall tottering buildings
hover like mountains on all sides
as he trudges through valleys of despair
passing greasy windows with style
the staircase shudders
and torn wallpaper sighs
as he continues his quiet journey
onward to a noble destiny
the door closes with resignation
omitting all sounds of sorrow
inside the room is damp and dark
concealing poverty’s sinister face
soon faint light cuts the gloom
and a quickened pulse betrays his heart
as he caresses the cover of a book
held in his wrinkled hands
