In early December I sent in my application for my long term illness card.
This card enables me to get my meds free of charge, whereas before, I’d have to pay 2 euros 50 for each prescription.
It doesn’t seem like a lot, but it adds up when you have at least 10 prescriptions each month.
I knew there was a backlog and so I thought I wouldn’t hear anything for at least 6 to 8 weeks.
Surprise of surprises, last week, my card arrived in the mail.
I was thrilled! I rang the pharmacy to see if I needed to do anything or if the prescriptions would automatically be given to me free of charge.
The pharmacist said he didn’t need me to do anything, and that starting in January, my prescriptions would be free.
That means, I’ll be saving 25 euros a month.
I told my mom and dad they should apply for the long term illness card too.
Mom said she’d get the forms and fill them out.
Why not?
This is great news! Hubby used to buy an annual ticket as he had at least 8 items every month Currently each is £9.35. Once we were 60 though, our prescriptions were free, but I believe they are moving the goalposts and you have to be of pensionable age before this happens. Luckily we are both pensioners now.

I would have had my post cancer meds free as a matter of course, but when Humphrey turned up, I was 60 anyway.
