I hate when there are students in the room when I am seeing Dr. Barry, my CPN Sarah, or getting my shot!
Its so unnerving! I know they are probably nervous too, and I know they have to learn, but god!
This morning my usual nurse Kay who normally gives me my shot wasn’t there. She’s out sick with Covid.
Another nurse Trish came and asked me if it would be ok if she gave it to me, and she also told me there would be another nurse Laura, plus a student in the room while she did it.
I’m like for fuck sake! 3 people to give a shot? Ridiculous!
But what could I do! I have to get it! So I said ok and she took the shot from me. She told me to wait and she’d come back out to get me once she’d drawn up the shot.
I hate having a crowd in the room! Its bad enough that I have to have someone I don’t know administering it.
I warned her to tell me when she was about to put the needle in, otherwise I’d freak out.
She did, thank god!
I almost fainted when the needle went in, but I think it was because I was stressing out about there being 3 people watching me get the shot.
I was so glad when it was over!
Then I went to my appointment with Sarah, and what do you know, she also had a student with her!
She said I didn’t have to allow her in to our session, but I did allow her to be present.
She was a very nice girl, and when Sarah went to get the weighing scales we chatted for a bit.
She is a second year nursing student.
Thank god Dr. Barry didn’t have a student with her! If she did, she didn’t ask me if she could come into our appointment!
I’m all talked out now. 3 psych apts in one day is a lot!
3 in one day? You are a badass! I could do 2 without an audience, maybe, but 3? You rocked it,girl!

Do you feel it’s difficult to say:” no, I don’t want them in”? I do. I hardly ever say no even though I know I have the right to do so.

Yes. I feel its hard to say no. I’m not good at doing that, even when I know I don’t want them in there!

I fully understand because I am the same. But I give you permission to say no to students next time they are around 🤗. Sometimes it helps to trick yourself 🥰

I think they are required to ask your permission — UNLESS you are in a teaching hospital. Then I think they don’t have to ask, though they usually ask anyway.
