So I just got home from my appointment with Dr. Barry.
We had a long discussion about Emily and her eating disordered behaviour.
It was very good to finally talk to her about Emily and how much she’s been struggling.
Since she regularly throws up, our blood sugars are all messed up.
I asked her about seeing the nutritionist on her team, Karen, who I used to work with a couple of years ago.
Karen is out on extended sick leave. No one has replaced her and there is no date for her return as of right now.
I told her that I’d like to get some diabetes education, as well as some help for Emily.
She offered to ask my CPN Sarah to do some work with us on the psychoeducation surrounding our diabetes, carb counting, etc.
Then came the shocker.
She said she could apply for some funding to get Emily seen by a private dietician with eating disorder expertise.
The problem is that the dietician would not be linked to the mental health team.
As our case is complex because we have did, and an ED, its much more complicated.
However Dr. Barry is willing to put a request in to management for funding.
We’d get 10 sessions with the dietician to start out with.
I think this will be really good for Emily. Along with Eileen and Sarah’s support, this could really help her.
She does want to work on her Ed behaviours.
I love Dr. Barry, she’s always so helpful and always trying to think of options to help in our treatment.
She said the private dietician she uses that she’s really good and she’s used her a lot with other anorexics and bulimics.
So this could really work!
She’s going to do some research, talk to Sarah, see what she can find out about Karen’s return to work, and look into applying for the funding for the private dietician.
I see her again in two weeks.
I hope that will end up being helpful for Emily.

Wow, that’s so good that Emily will have some help specifically for her ED, she clearly needs it and I hope it’ll improve things for you guys.
