Todays provocative question is about formal education. We all have our opinions on how best to educate and prepare our children to succeed in todays highly complex world. So this begs the question:
What do you think is the one subject (or thing) that should be taught in school that isnt?
Life skills! I dont think schools teach the kids enough life skills today!
I went to a bording school for the blind for 11 years, and then I went to a secondary school with all sighted girls in cork where I lived for the remainder of my schooling.
I can honestly say, as bad as the bording school was they did teach us life skills. They taught us how to cook, how to wash dishes, how to be independent.
I noticed when I went to a mainstream school for the remainder of my schooling that a lot of the girls didnt know basic life skills.
I think, in todays world its very important for all kids to learn the basics.
Otherwise how can they get on in life when they reach adulthood?
