Med mishap

Well, I found out this morning while at my appointment with dr. barry that I’ve been taking the wrong dose of haldol for weeks.
She had prescribed me 5 mg at night, and 2.5 mg prn twice a day if needed.
But the pharmacy got it wrong, and were giving me 10 mg tablets and telling me to take them at night.
So that is what I’ve been doing!
It was only when I mentioned it this morning to dr. Barry that she was like, really? I only meant for you to take 5 MG at night! She said 10 MG is a large dose to be taking.
However, now if I dont take the 10 MG I cant sleep at all!
She told me while my sleep is bad I could continue taking the 10 MG, but in 2 weeks we’d look at reducing the dose, if my sleep improved.
She said that when we reduce the dose back down to 5 MG, that I can still have the 2.5 MG tablets PRN twice a day if needed, just not to take the whole 10 MG all at once.
Its a good thing I thought to mention it to her! I wasnt going to!
I just took what the pharmacy told me to be correct, when really it wasnt.
I suppose the fault lies with my gp who wrote out the prescription, but Dr. Barry wrote to him, you’d think he could follow the instructions she put in her letter!
