I just finished the book groomed to be a bride by maggie hartley! It was a great read but so sad in parts of it. The story centres around halema, an iraqui girl who is placed with Maggie, after she is found in the back of a lorry, she’s 14 years old and nobody knows how she came to be in the UK, all they know is her name.
At first it is hard for maggie to reach her, due to the language barriers, she doesnt speak any english. Maggie enlists the help of her friend to try to reach her.
I am not going to give away most of the story, but I will say she does learn english, and eventually they do find out how she came to be in the UK. That part of the book is very sad.
I must also warn you there is loss in the book, maggie’s daughter becomes pregnant and I wont say what happens to her baby but it is worth warning you that if you are effected by death and loss then this might not be the book for you.
Later on in the book Halema is almost recruited into the IS by some people she has met online. When I first started reading the book I never seen that twist coming. It was a good twist to the book.
Anyway the book is available on kindle or in audio from audible if anyones interested in reading it.
I highly recommend it if you like foster care memoirs and stories about people overcoming the odds!
Great review!
