I cannot believe my stupidity

I am so upset. I went to plug in my external hard drive…it had over 4 tb of books, audiobooks, on it. I went to plug it in, and it slipped out of my hand and crashed to the floor, the floor is tiled, so is crashed hard onto it. And of course when I plugged it in it was not working. It died. So then I quickly went on amazon and I ordered a new drive which is being delivered on Monday. But my books, I lost loads and loads of audio books. I was able to email a few friends who share books with me, and I am hoping they’ll be able to give me the books again, literally every book I owned was on that drive. I have some backed up to open drive but not a whole lot, so I’m extremely upset with myself, I should have been more careful when I was plugging it in, my laptop was on the kitchen table, and there wasnt much room for the drive to also sit on the table, and I should have considered that before trying to plug it in. So that is my gripe of the morning! I am waiting for my friends to reply to me, I am waiting anxiously and patiently although patience isnt my strong point. Lol.

  1. Oh carol anne, that sucks so much! I’m really sorry. Will you now get a tougher external harddrive? I mean, I have one that can resist a fall. Usually they have less space on them, but still it may be worth it.

  2. Wow. I’m so sorry. I hope you can get at least some of them back. I’m paranoid about data loss, I have everything on my laptop as well as two different external drives. On top of that, I use Digital River’s Crash Plan online backup tool so that even if the house burns down I can get my data back. I think I’m a little paranoid, data backup was a large part of my job when I worked at Delphi, I was in charge of all server and workstation backups for all our Unix machines. I kept two local copies on robot operated tape libraries and sent a copy off-site to a storage facility once a week.

    1. You cant be too paranoid! Its so important. I’ve learned a hard lesson. I ordered another drive, a 5 TB drive, and it will be here on Monday. I have 3 friends who are sharing with me so I can probably get most of what I lost back.

  3. I can soo relate with you on this, sometimes I get really upset and anxious about something and in the end I end up regretting it in a moment of anger. Next time you get frustrated about some thing walk away. Just leave what ever is upsetting you and go to another room or go wash your hands. It prevents you from doing something you may regret. Trust me this is coming from someone who has lost a lot of phones and electronic devices due to frustration.

  4. Hate when that happens but if I had a dollar for every time I dropped something I would be rich. On the other hand I am 73 so dropping things is probably the norm. Although dropping myself has also happened so when you put things in perspective all I can say is it happens. Now I will have to be careful of my external hard drive also. Also my laptop, both are on my dining room table. You have given me something to worry about. Lol hope you get your info back. 🥰
