Pear and apple crisp

This is a recipe from the book Home Cooks’ Easy Recipes:
Pear And Apple Crisp
6 slices whole-wheat bread
1 1/2 pounds pears, peeled, cored and sliced
1 1/2 pounds apples, peeled, cored and sliced
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 cup flour
1/4 cup sugar
6 tablespoons margarine
Tear bread into pieces; place on baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. Make into coarse crumbs. Combine pears, apples and lemon juice; add 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon and 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg. Place in 12 by 7 1/2 by 2 inch baking dish. Combine bread, flour, sugar and remaining brown sugar and spices. Add margarine, a few tablespoons at a time, processing until mixture resembles cornmeal. Spoon over fruit mixture. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
Makes 10 servings.
