Fandango’s flash fiction challenge #71

Fandango is the host of the flash fiction weekly challenge, and this week I thought I’d have a go and see what I can come up with.

(For the visually challenged writer, the image is of a lantern overlooking bushes and field in the background)

As they sat in the darkness only the lantern illuminated the night sky.
Their campfire was almost burned out now.
“Well I guess its time for bed, lizzie said to the kids”
The kids had had a great time that evening, making smores, singing camp songs around the campfire, and just enjoying being in nature.
In fact, Lizzie was also enjoying it. There was nothing better than beingn out in nature and out in the fresh air she thought.
“Mom?” Said sean in a scared voice.
“I’m scared of the dark”.
“dont feel scared honey”. lizzie said. “the lantern will be shining and we’ll be safe”
“And, I’m right here if you need me”.
The kids went into their tent and snuggled down under their sleeping bags. They knew their mom was there, keeping them all safe, nothing would get them when she was around.
