So fandangos word for today was split. So I thought I’d give a brief synopsis of what did or dissociative identity disorder actually is.
Dissociative identity disorder, is the presence of two or more distinct personalities, which each take control of a persons thoughts, and behaviour. It used to be called split personality in the olden days. Then it was known as multiple personality, but nowadays it is known as dissociative identity disorder.
The name changed back in the early 90’s.
Symptoms of did include identity confusion, switching, which is when one of the alters takes control of the body, dissociation, but there can be secondary symptoms, like ptsd, anxiety, depression, etc.
Did is usually associated with early childhood, and usually alters are formed in the child before the age of 9.
It can be hard to diagnose, as many mental illnesses have similar symptoms, but there are ways to diagnose it, including taking tests like the dissociative experiences scale, dissociative interview questionaire etc.
Usually the treatment for did is longterm psychotherapy, there arent specific meds for it, but usually other symptoms are treated with medication, like anxiety, depression and others.
