Workers at my house this afternoon

I had a few issues in my house, issues that the local council who I am renting from needed to look at. For one thing the taps in my bathroom sink and in my kitchen sink, the water pressure was very low and only a trickle of water was coming out, very annoying when your trying to keep your hands clean. Also, the flurescent lights in my kitchen, one of them is used out. I dont know how to fix it, change it, or where I would get a new bulb. I’ve tried hardware stores, but they didnt have the kinda lights I was looking for.
So earlier this afternoon I rang the council offices and I asked if the housing maintenance peole were still working. The lady I spoke to said yes they were but they were only doing emergencies, obviously my issues arent an emergency, but I told her to log my maintenance request anyway, and she did. I thought no more of it, I figured I’d be waiting for a few weeks at least before someone came out to look at things.
Surprise of surprises when 30 minutes later there was a knock at my front door, and it was the maintenance guys, two plumbers asking me if they could come in.
I let them in and they got to work. They tried to fix my taps but they werent successful. Apparently when the houses were being built they put special types of taps in them, and it was for safety reasons, since the row of houses where I live there are 5 houses, are all for the disabled. So these taps are specific type of tap and the water is meant to come out slowly so as not to burn anyone whose using it. So there really was nothing they could do about it. While they were here I asked them to look at my boiler too because the pressure was low and the radiators werent heating up like they should have been. So they looked at that and fixed it and now the house is much warmer. They said someone else would be out to fix my lights, so that was that, they left, and wished me a good day.
Later on I got a call from the councils number, but I missed it, so I rang them back to see who was calling me. The girl I spoke to couldnt tell me but she logged my complaint about my lights again. And now I am waiting for somoene to come out to fix them, and I am just not sure when that will be. Could be in a day, a weeek, or a month, who knows.
I hate having strange people in my house, who I dont know. It triggers all sorts of reactions in me, all sorts of emotional reactions. From fear, to panic, anxious overwhelm, to just the feeling of hating having a stranger in my personal space. At least Nitro was here, although he’s so friendly that all he’d do is lick them. He was wagging his tail and sniffing the men, and I had to keep him sitting next to me at the kitchen table while they worked. He’s very curious and he wanted to know what they were up to all of the time.
So its been a busy afternoon. I had no time for a nap, which is probably a good thing, but anyway I wasnt tired, and if I did nap it would have only been out of bordum.

  1. That’s good they were at least able to help with your boiler and radiators so you have it warmer. Hope it won’t last too long before they can help with other things. It’s indeed so uncomfortable for me too to have strange people around the house, I hate it very much.
