Apple stuffing

Apple Stuffing
1 stick butter, divided
1 cup chopped walnuts
2 onions, chopped
1 (14 ounce) package dry herb-seasoned stuffing mix
1 1/2 cups applesauce
Water, optional
In nonstick skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Saute walnuts over medium heat until toasted, about 5 minutes, stirring frequently. Remove from skillet and set aside. Melt remaining butter in skillet. Add onions and cook for 3 to 4 minutes, or until almost tender; set aside. Spray 4 to 6 quart slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray. Place dry stuffing mix in slow cooker. Add onion-butter mixture and stir. Add applesauce and stir. Cover; cook on low for 4 to 5 hours, or until heated through. Check after stuffing has cooked for 3 1/2 hours. If it is sticking to the cooker, drying out, or becoming too brown on the edges, stir in 1/2 to 1 cup water. Continue cooking. Sprinkle with walnuts before serving.
Makes 4 to 5 servings.
