Memories of my gramma

So today while cleaning out a drawer I found a folder. In it I found letters that my gramma wrote to me when I was 9 years old. So they are 30 years old. I found 3 letters. I got mom to read them to me. It was bittersweet. I was moved to tears by what she said in them. She said she wished she could come to my school to visit me, but that she felt too unwell to make the long journey there. But she hoped some day she’d be able to come. She never did. She suffered from severe and prolonged depression all of her life. She would spend weeks and months in bed. I always remember that about her I remember going to visit her at weekends and sitting with her and we’d watch old movies and chat. I miss her so much. She died when I was 14, she died from breast cancer that spread all over her body. Finding those letters today brought back a lot to me. In them she was telling me about family, and in each of them she said she enclosed 2 pounds, that was a lot of money back in 1989, I remember having money to go to the store and buy candy, and all of my friends in school were jealous of me. I do remember her also writing to me when I was in school and staff reading out the letters to me. I’m so glad I kept them. Having them is so important to me. It helps me feel connected and close to my gramma, who I loved dearly.

      1. I bet it did. Never had to deal with that but most of my family passed away of cancer which you know because of your gramma is bad enough. XXX will light a candle for all of you! X

      2. I do not blame you. It was freezing but the sky was so cool. The sun just came up but was behind a cloud and it lit the top of the cloud up. That looked great! Was worth putting up with the cold!

      3. Good luck with that. I just had lunch and then write a couple of posts. Dog might want another walk (or me because of that cookie for lunch 😁) and then cooking and some housework maybe 😚🙋

      4. I wanted to do Share your world too but didn’t manage. Will do that tomorrow. Housework and cooking is sorted now. Was cheese and potato pie and salad. That wasn’t too much work and tasted nice. Afterwards sorted my email. I deleted most newsletters I had signed up for and still get a ton 😊 and you. Are you having a nice evening?

  1. aww that’s lovely that you still have the letters and such nice memories of your Grandma before she passed away even though she wasn’t a well lady. I never had that sort of connection with any of my grandparents unfortunately. xox

      1. well my mum’s mum died the year before I was born, my dad’s dad when I was 4 so didn’t get to know either of them. My dad’s mum was a very cold woman, though she moved locally to us and we saw her regularly(died when I was 11)…unfortunately my favourite, my grumpa (mum’s dad) lived 400miles away in Scotland so we only saw him a few times a year, I have lovely memories of him but he died when I was 12. Family is a weird concept for me lol but I do love hearing about other people’s close connections with theirs 🙂 xox
