Volunteering

i had a great day. i went volunteering in the afternoon. i am meant to be doing admin work in the office but usually the staff ask me to come on bord with the friendly call service. i am not trained up as a volunteer for that service, but they think im able to call people anyway, they’ve seen me speak to clients on the phone when they ring looking for the coordinator of the friendly call service.
so for most of this afternoon I made calls to check in with clients. it was so rewarding. I get so much out of talking to the clients. most of them are disabled or elderly. they dont get out much. sometimes our call is the only contact they have with another person during the day.
so its really important to them.
I volunteered from 1:30 until 5. then one of the staff offered to give me a ride home. i was so thankful. i’d already gotten two taxi’s today one to the basement club this morning, and then one to the partnership this afternoon. that had cost me 20 euro. so i was so grateful to save a little money and get a ride home.
she said she could probably give me a ride home every week, provided she doesnt have to go visit her mom, but she said she’d try to visit her mom at another time and not at 5 Pm so that she would be able to give me a ride home.
i got home and had to call my friend, she needed a little extra support today. she doesnt have many friends, and doesnt go out to much either on most days.
i got done talking to her and just made a microwave meal, wasnt really in the mood for cooking, its too hot to eat, but I have to eat something, so a microwave meal it is. I think I’ll go outside now and read for a while while the sun is still shining.
