Volunteering on friendly call

so i’m volunteering at friendly call this afternoon. i just made a couple of calls to people. it went well. well mostly went well anyway. there was this one lady who wouldnt talk to me. she said i disturbed her. she told me she was having a rest and so she needed to let me go. i didnt pursue it i just let her hang up on me. its her right to do that if she wants to. the rest of my callers were all very friendly. they chatted easily with me. there was this one lady she was 85. she was so sweet. then there was another lady who was in a lot of physical pain, but still she managed to tell me to go home and snuggle up on the couch…because she knew i was feeling sick. I thought that was so sweet of her. so thoughtful of her to be thinking of me. i love this job. its so rewarding. i meet so many interesting people here. talking to the callers gives me so much to think about. I have so much to be thankful for. some of them are so frail and so ill. I am lucky I am not. I feel in my heart for so many of them. I’m glad I can phone them up and brighten their day a little bit.

  1. That sounds like a fulfilling job. Having someone to talk to is good for them. I hope to, in time, get a volunteer job that will also be over the phone, at a mental health hotline.
