Emerging From The Dark Night


If I can just bear it

To stay here

Within the unfolding of this silent moment

Witnessing the beating of my own heart

Grown rapid

With a suppressed longing to live and love

Too long denied

Will I summon up the courage

To find for myself a place

Out there in an open field

Way beyond fences

If I can just bear to open the door a little

To reveal the depths of what is true for me

While every bone in my body quakes with breathlessness and fear

If I can just allow what wants to journey outward

To be set free

With the force of a thousand wings

Might I just finally

Understand what it means

To fly free of a place

Beyond cages

Where joyful uprush of air carries me

To winged flight

And downward swoop

Kicks my disabled trust into gear
