sleep isnt happening

i’m about to tear my hair out. i cant sleep. i lay down at 1 AM and tried and tried to go to sleep. i couldnt. i was thinking and thinking. a million thoughts racing around my brain. i hate when that happens. its like i just couldnt switch off. so eventually at 3 AM I got up. will probably be up for the rest of tonight. it sucks. i seriously think i might have that non 24 sleep disorder. they say blind people get it a lot because of an imbalanced sarcadian rhythm or something. i dont know its a possibility i guess. either way its annoying when its the middle of the night and your awake when the world is asleep. at least the rest of the people in my part of the world.

  1. sorry you can’t sleep. I struggle with sleep as well, though I am not blind. Maybe see a sleep specialist if you can to see if you can know about the disorder. They might be able to give you tips to sleep better.

      1. I think people with trauma histories are more prone to sleep problems because the abuse happened at night. The fear of another attack is always there, even if the abuse is no longer occurring which is sad.

  2. I wish you could get a sleep study done. A friend of mine got in on a study and they paid her $10,000. the study lasted a whole year and she had to do a lot of things, but she got the money in the end. I hope you are able to get at least a couple of hours before morning. xxx

  3. Sorry to hear you can’t sleep, me neither. Like yours, my mind wouldn’t switch off. Its settling a bit now but pain from my Fibromyalgia has kicked in and that’s now keeping me awake instead. I’m just mucking about online, still in bed resting although not sleeping. x

      1. I think I fell asleep around 4am and then woke up at noon. So I finally did get some sleep but it was restless with bad dreams. So frustrating. I am glad you finally slept. It is so weird to get off kilter with sleep patterns. A few nights ago I fell asleep at 9:30pm all excited. I then woke up at 10 pm . It was like an evening nap!!!! I stayed up until 3 am. What a mess.

  4. Sleeplessness is awful! Indeed, both blind and mentally ill people have more sleep issues than “normal”, I often notice it. This night wasn’t good for me neither, generally yesterday was terrible, so maybe because of that, though luckily I fell finally asleep about 3 AM and I’m not very sleepy at the moment.

  5. I have felt that type of stress many times. It is often hard to get a full night of sleep for me. One great thing to do to unwind about 10 hours before you need to wake up for the day is to start a bedtime routine. No screens (use nightshift or f.lux if you can’t avoid this one), sleep enhancing herbal tea, maybe write in a notebook or journal, keep the lights low, use some blue blocking glasses, listen to some calming music or meditate while focusing on your breathing.
All of these sound easy but can be quite difficult. Best of luck and hope you’re able to sleep soon!
    Cheers!
